Mills Psychology – On Anger Management Therapy

Our Anger Management Programmes are unique because we offer a more intensive and effective anger management therapy that is tailored to the unique needs and life situation of each client. What distinguishes our approach from other general programmes is that we do not simply counsel people on how to act, nor do we gloss over the real source of the problem. We know that the only way to effectively make permanent and recognizable change is to address the root cause of what is fuelling a person’s rage, explosiveness, and destructive behaviour. This is why we identify and understand the origins of why a person has anger problems to begin with and attempt to address the source of their suffering. This requires that people be treated with sensitivity and compassion surrounding their emotional vulnerabilities and difficulties that cause their disruptive affect, which negatively impacts on their lives. We attempt to get at the root of the problem, offer viable solutions, involve other family members when deemed appropriate, and allow the client to work-through painful emotional experiences that are the cause of one’s anger. This is done in a safe, confidential, and supportive-empathic environment. Visit www.MillsPsychology.ca for more Information. Copyright 2011 Mills Psychology. www.hrmvideo.com Anger is a natural response to many of life’s most troubling situations, but all too often explosions of teen anger can be harmful and hurtful. Hostility and anger can devastate a teen’s life, destroy relationships, cloud effective thinking, impact school performance, affect physical health and ruin future career plans. This program uses dramatic, thought-provoking interviews with real teenagers to demonstrate that, although it is easy to lose emotional control in school, at home and with friends, there are ways to resist exploding in anger or defiance. An adolescent psychologist offers viewers a wealth of common sense tips and advice that will help them more confidently cope with their emotional or angry responses to daily stresses. Tips include: recognizing anger triggers, taking a breath before reacting, defusing situations by talking, learning relaxation techniques and much more. Teacher’s Resource Book activities enable students to examine their own anger triggers and learn effective, healthy ways to harness their emotions.

Dealing with Sibling Fights – as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Hi, I am Dr. Laura Markham of ahaparenting.com and we are talking today about how you can help your children to get along with each other. The first thing you can do is to stay connected to your child. Yes, does not sound like it has anything to do with your children getting along. But actually, the most important reason kids fight is that they are worried about their bond with you and they are worried that they are not important enough to you and they have lost their special place in the family. So the most important thing you can do is spend time every single day alone with each of your children. Fifteen minutes, twenty minutes, just connecting with them and bonding. Second thing you can do: Set clear limits. Right? But set them with empathy. So, your child warps his sister? Well, guess what. The feelings are not wrong. He is allowed to be angry at her. After all, she wrecked his tower. He is allowed to be jealous of her. After all, she came and stole your love, right? At least that is what he sees. So he is allowed to have those feelings and you can say, “Son, you can be as mad as you want and I know you get jealous of your sister sometimes when I spend time with her. And I know she can be a pain in the neck when she wrecks your tower. But you may not hit her. We do not hit.” So, empathic limits. Right? Another thing you can do is promote sibling bonding. So when you have a new baby in the family …
